Kitesurfing Hampton to Green Point with good wind #583

Some good wind again late in the afternoon! 

I kited on the bay swell down to Green Point to catch some waves, then back upwind to the Marina and downwind slalom back the beach.

Very happy with the new Union 9m kite.

Kitesurfing Hampton and Green Point in 30 knots #524

Session 524. Strong winds in the afternoon up to 30 knots. There was a good bay surf at Hampton and several kiters out enjoying it. The reef between the two groynes at the kitesurfing area was working too.  

I headed to Green Point surfing some big swells on the way there. There were some good sized waves on the reef break, after three runs I headed back.  My 6m Airush Wave kite was a good kite for the day, good on the waves and still able to get up wind.

The waves back to Hampton were good too.  I was surprised by how many other kiters for out - they were using 7, 8 and even 9m kites.

Session 519. A classic Hampton sea breeze and tour to Green Point made for a great session. After a few tacks in nice bay waves between the rock groynes Anthony and I headed across to Green Point for some good wave action. There was plenty of water so the reefs were well covered.

I was well powered on my Union 8 so it was easy to tack back to Hampton where more kiters were on the water.  Nice sunny warm weather, warm water and a good stiff sea breeze - summer is here!

Session 472. On the water about 3 p.m, there wind was strong enough to go upwind so I headed for Green Point.  There were no good waves there however so I head back surfing the swells.  Paul and Greg were out on their foil boards having a good time. We were the only three kiters out.

Its getting colder now. I am looking forward to some bigger waves.

Afterwards I visited James and Heather and Sandringham Yacht Club, they are nearly ready to head off for some more adventure sailing after doing some repairs.

Session 460.  A good 20 knot wind in the afternoon; the lads did a downwinder from Ricketts to Brighton.  I was tired and had a nap after some hard mountain biking in the morning so I missed it. I got down to Brighton later in the afternoon kited easily upwind to Green Point to catch some waves, then followed the reefs back down to Brighton.  The guys came past finishing the downwinder, lucky chaps!

Session 439. Hampton delivered!  A strong southerly came in late afternoon. I headed to Hampton with Stu Styles.  It was cranking when we arrived with about 8 kiters out in the bay surf.  First time I to try out my Airush Wave 6m kite, at last . . .

I had plenty of power to get out and about, and like its name, the Wave was really good surfing. I was able to enjoy riding waves and not get pulled off them.  The kite turns nicely and drifts down the line well.  I had it fully powered for the entire session.  I tried some jumps, it doesn't boost like the Unions but that's OK in strong wind.

It was a bit crowded at Hampton so I toured down to Green Point where a good surf was rolling into the beach and along the reef at the point.  I did three runs through the waves, with the kite performing really well.  I got my money's worth with this one session!

Heading back, the kite went upwind well too.  I get back to Hampton with only a couple of tacks.  Stu was on the beach and said he was maxxed out on his Union 8.  He took the Wave 6 out for a short surf and really noticed the difference, riding waves coming back in.

Wow, just wow.  Hampton and Green Point are so good when the wind hits the magic 30 knots.

Hampton to Green Point early kitesurfing session

Session 344.  Early wind forecast so we were onto it.  Stu S, Stuart W, James, Tarren and I converged on Hampton with a nice westerly blowing.  I headed straight for Green Point and got some nice waves just off the reef.   The surf keeps going down along the point towards Brighton for a while.

A tack off Brighton enjoying the view, then back toward Hampton.  Riding the swells back into the beach with downloops was great, followed by some surf on the Hampton reefs.

Coffee and a muffin afterwards, then off to SHQ for an interesting new board - more on that to come!

Kitesurfing Hampton to Green Point with nice bay surf

Session 272. A good sea breeze of around 25 knots sprang up around 4pm.  Here was a great opportunity to work off the excess food intake of Christmas Day. Hampton was the place to be.  Stuart and James got there a bit before me and were already on the water along with about a dozen other kiters and several windsurfers .

I headed out the the marina sea wall and caught some of the waves breaking around it and then headed in on the flat water.  I did a couple of jumps nice jumps then surfed the sell back past the first groyne to the beach section.

There were some good swells coming in there - I caught a couple of nice waves, then headed on along the beach following the reef breaks.  There were good waves at Green Point and only a couple of kiters there.  

I then worked by way back to Hampton, getting some nice waves on the return trip too.

25 knots produces quite a reasonable swell with some good surf. There was even a couple of surfers out off Middle Brighton.

My back (right side, near top of pelvis) is giving me some grief but this session was too good to miss.  I might have to rest up for a couple of days now though.
